A Heart for the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum of Texas

At FLCA we use Susan Wise Bauer’s Story of the World curriculum, which lays out the world events of history in a chronological timeline. This year’s focus is on modern history, so we have spent a lot of time studying various wars around the world. Recently, God arranged for our kids to experience some military history firsthand by giving us an opportunity to visit an awesome “museum by and about veterans”. We were able to see real military equipment that was used in battles and countless pieces of war memorabilia. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then we have a lot to say, so we will let our pictures speak for themselves.

This tank driver taught us about the parts of a tank, and how they work. His story about his tank being hit in war and how he and his men were almost killed helped us appreciate the sacrifice these men make for our freedom!

This is a piece of equipment that allows the men riding down in the tank to still see their surroundings, similar to a periscope used in a submarine.

A colonel in the Air Force shared some exciting parts of his job with us and let us try out his helmet. The headset in his helmet allows him to communicate with up to 4 different operators.

One of our favorite exhibits was the Huey Helicopter. We got to explore the cockpit and fuselage of the helicopter.

We had some awesome war veterans who volunteered to give us a tour with firsthand experiences. The stories we heard are priceless!
